R&D - Research and Development

We also carry Research and Development (R&D) in our DNA.

Spin, in 1992, was established as a startup company within the CDT-UnB and, since then, it has a strong link with Research and Development (R&D). Its founders were professors at UFRGS and UnB and, before founding Spin, they participated in several innovative projects such as: Implementation of the first teleprocessing system in Brazil, with the online registration of UFRGS, in 1973, Document retrieval system of the MRE, in 1980, which implemented the first thesaurus created in Brazil, Cindacta’s radar data processing system for the Três Marias – Couto coverage, project SDCS (Distributed Control Digital System) for the automation of paper machines, in 1984, where a SCADA in assembler was developed and ten paper plants, a propulsion and damage control system for the inhaúma class corvettes were automated corvettes from the Brazilian Navy, where a SCADA in PLM86 was developed.

This proximity to the Academy makes the development of software and automation solutions a natural process

Brief history:

Spin’s founding partners are masters in Computer Science by UFRGS and were professors of Computer Science at the University of Rio Grande do Sul-UFRGS and at the University of Brasília-UnB.

His academic records involve works presented in dozens of national and international congresses. The company’s employees also have outstanding academic backgrounds and follow the steps traced since the beginning of Spin.

The methodology called Lean Automation is in the patent registration process and was developed by Spin technicians.

ActionWise, a ADMS/FLISR, uses a modified genetic algorithm for the detection and isolation of failures in the distribution network.

In several projects, Spin provided the automation technology transfer service, both for energy concessionaires and for automation systems integrators.

In 2013, Spin was the only company in Brasília to have two applied research projects approved by the Federal District Research Support Foundation (FAP-DF). One for the development of new tools and protocols in ActionₒNET, the other focused on the area of energy efficiency.

Partnerships with Universities

Unicamp (DSEE-FEE):

Energy management system project (AVEms – Energy Management System) implemented at CEB and used to manage the city of Brasília.

EPUSP/PEA:

With the Department of Electrical Energy Engineering and Automation – PEA at USP/SP, Spin participated in three ANEEL R&D projects with energy utilities.

LAVSI (UnB):

With the Automation, Vision and Intelligent Systems Laboratory at UnB, Spin developed, through an ANEEL R&D project, the IEC-61850 protocol for CEEE-D.

LAVSI (UnB):

With LAVSI, Spin developed, with support from the DF Research Support Foundation (FAP-DF), the SAPIEn project – Intelligent Building Automation System for the Rationalization of Electric Energy Use.

FAP-DF:

FAP-DF: in 2014, Spin started two projects with the support of FAP-DF, one is the development of new features in Action₀NET, which make it the best SCADA in Brazil; another is the development of an Acquisition and Control Unit (UAC) for large-scale monitoring of the power grid.
